Gold - Qualifying Planning Day [Tramping]

The Gold Qualifying Planning Day, held one month before the expedition, is a student-led session where teams finalise their plans for their upcoming Qualifying journey.

Students should come prepared with pre-researched route options, menu ideas, and any kit they plan to take, so instructors can inspect it and confirm it is suitable for use on the expedition.

During the day, group members will present and discuss their ideas, collaboratively refining route cards, navigation strategies, risk management plans, and other logistical details to ensure the expedition meets all DofE requirements. An AdventureWorks Instructor will be on hand to provide expert advice and share experience-based tips, but students will lead the discussions and make the final decisions. By the end of the session, the team will have a clear, actionable plan, with every member confident in their role and ready to approach the Gold Qualifying expedition safely and independently.

Important: You must have completed your Silver level Award before undertaking this Planning Day & associated Qualifying Journey. If you are a Gold Direct Entrant, please email dofe@adventureworks.co.nz before continuing with your booking. 

Each Gold Qualifying expedition has a corresponding Planning Day scheduled one month prior. Please make sure you book into the correct Planning Day for your trip :

• 14 March:  for the Gold Qualifying expedition 13 - 16 April

• 14 June: for the Gold Qualifying expedition 13 - 16 July

• 5 September:  for the Gold Qualifying expedition 5 - 8 October

• 14 November: for the Gold Qualifying expedition 14 - 18 December (5-day option for keen beans!)
